As a Minor League affiliate competing at a professional level, the Somerset Patriots require a natural-grass field that can perform consistently through long homestands, heavy foot traffic, and unpredictable weather. Their existing surface had reached the end of its lifecycle, showing uneven wear, grading inconsistencies, and infield performance issues that affected both safety and playability. To prepare the ballpark for the upcoming season, the Patriots turned to Hummer Turfgrass Systems for a complete field reconstruction.
Hummer began by removing the existing turf and re-establishing the field’s base profile through precision laser grading, ensuring proper slope, smooth transitions, and true surface planarity throughout the diamond and outfield. Once the foundation was set, the team installed premium natural turf across the outfield, foul territory, and perimeter areas—engineered for durability, uniform ball response, and rapid recovery under professional use. In the infield, Hummer performed a full renovation including clay work, lip repair, and mound and plate reconstruction to create clean edges, balanced moisture management, and consistent traction for both pitchers and position players.
With the new surface in place, Hummer completed turf grow-in, stabilization, and final finishing ahead of reopening. The result is a smooth, reliable, MiLB-standard field that enhances player safety, supports high-intensity competition, and elevates the overall game experience at the Patriots’ home ballpark.
