As host of the PGA TOUR’s BMW Championship, Caves Valley Golf Club required playing surfaces that met the exacting expectations of professional golfers, event officials, and national broadcast audiences. Tournament conditions demand fast, firm, and uniform turf—especially across fairways and key approach areas that endure heavy traffic. With a high-stakes deadline approaching, Caves Valley engaged Hummer to deliver targeted, championship-level conditioning across the course.
Hummer implemented a multi-phase improvement plan designed to enhance drainage efficiency, increase surface firmness, and restore optimal turf health ahead of tournament week. The team installed upgraded subsurface drainage to improve water movement and reduce moisture retention across select holes. Using specialized Topdrain equipment, Hummer also enhanced surface drainage to promote faster drying and more consistent playing conditions—a critical factor for televised professional events.
In addition to drainage upgrades, Hummer executed large-scale fairway aeration to relieve compaction and strengthen turf vigor across the course. All phases were meticulously coordinated around the club’s practice and preparation schedule to avoid disruption during a critical window.
Through precise execution and a deep understanding of professional golf standards, Hummer delivered a firmer, more consistent, and tournament-ready course surface—helping Caves Valley uphold the elite playability required for PGA TOUR competition.
