Wyomissing High School’s athletic program relies on natural-grass fields that can support a demanding schedule of practices, games, PE classes, and community events. With constant student use and seasonal weather challenges, the fields required ongoing maintenance and targeted improvements to remain safe, consistent, and competition-ready. Since 2012, the district partnered with Hummer Turfgrass Systems to deliver a long-term natural-turf care and repair solution designed specifically for high-use school environments.
Hummer’s work included surface preparation, grading, and smoothing to eliminate irregularities and improve overall playability across the athletic fields. The team also upgraded or installed new irrigation components, ensuring even water distribution and more reliable turf performance throughout the season. To strengthen the grass system itself, Hummer implemented full turf-health routines such as aeration, overseeding, and topdressing — essential for restoring density, improving resilience, and preventing the wear patterns common in school sports.
Because school facilities operate on tight calendars, Hummer coordinated all field work around athletic practices, home games, and major school activities. Rapid in-season repairs were delivered to restore high-wear zones such as end zones, multipurpose impact areas, and team warm-up spots. Together, these improvements and ongoing maintenance programs helped Wyomissing maintain safe, dependable natural-grass fields that support student athletes week after week.
